There’s always that one piece. The one you pick up… look at… and then set back down. Not because you don’t like it — but because you’re not quite sure what to make of it.
That happened to me recently… with these.
✧ The Ones I Almost Left Behind
I came across this little group sitting together — bright, playful, and definitely not quiet pieces. A clown cup, an elephant cup, and a Mickey Mouse cup. And a familiar mouse with that classic smile.
Not exactly what I usually go for. And if I’m being honest… I almost walked right past them.
✧ They Didn’t Fit My “Normal”
Most of the time, I’m drawn to softer pieces. Worn wood. Faded paper. Muted tones that feel like they’ve been around forever.
These? They were bold. Colorful. A little louder than what I typically bring home. So I hesitated.
✧ But Something About Them Felt Familiar
Even though they weren’t my usual style… they felt like something. The kind of pieces you remember seeing as a kid.
Sitting on a shelf. Holding cookies… or little treasures… or absolutely nothing at all.
The kind of pieces that weren’t just décor — they were part of everyday life.
✧ So I Went Back
I made it a few steps away, and then I did what I always end up doing… I turned around. Because over time, I’ve learned something: If something makes you pause — even if it doesn’t “fit” — there’s usually a reason.
✧ The Pieces That Surprise You
These weren’t planned finds. They didn’t match anything I had in mind. They weren’t part of a theme. But they brought something different. A little fun. A little nostalgia, and a reminder that not everything has to be quiet to have a story.
✧ A Little Reminder I Keep Learning
Sometimes it’s not about whether a piece fits perfectly. Sometimes it’s just about how it makes you feel when you see it. And more often than not… the pieces I almost leave behind end up being the ones I’m most glad I brought home.
✧ I Know That I’m Not the Only One
Have you ever passed something up… and then gone back for it? I’d love to hear what it was — those are always the best stories.
✧ A Few Recent Finds
These are the kinds of pieces I’m talking about — the unexpected ones that still find a way to stand out. Mickey is in my Etsy Store, the clown has sold, and the elephant I need to get listed!
(Some of these are the kind of pieces I’m talking about — the quiet ones that don’t shout, but somehow still stand out.)
