That’s one of the things I enjoy most about shopping for vintage. You don’t need a huge budget to add warmth, character, and personality to your home. Sometimes it’s the smallest pieces that make the biggest impact.
Start Small
You don’t have to fill an entire room with antiques. Instead, look for a few pieces that catch your eye.
Some of my favorite budget-friendly vintage finds include:
- Small pottery pieces
- Vintage books
- Old postcards
- Wooden boxes
- Crocks and stoneware
- Kitchen utensils
- Framed prints
- Milk glass
- Small baskets
Even one vintage item on a shelf can completely change the feel of a space.
Mix Old with New
One of the easiest ways to decorate with vintage is to blend it with what you already own.
A stack of old books beside a modern lamp, a vintage crock holding wooden spoons in the kitchen, or an old postcard tucked into a picture frame can instantly make a room feel more welcoming.
You don’t have to decorate your entire home in vintage style. Mixing old and new creates a collected look that feels natural rather than staged.
Look Beyond the Obvious
Sometimes the best decorating pieces weren’t originally made to be decorations.
An old toolbox can become table storage. Vintage crocks make beautiful planters. Wooden crates can hold blankets or magazines. Antique pitchers are perfect for fresh flowers.
Part of the fun is imagining a new purpose for something that’s already lived a long life.
Buy What You Love
One piece of advice I always come back to is simple: buy what makes you smile.
Don’t worry about whether it’s valuable or if someone else would collect it. If a piece speaks to you, chances are you’ll find the perfect place for it.
Your home should tell your story—not someone else’s.
Collect Over Time
The best vintage collections aren’t built in a weekend.
They’re gathered one treasure at a time, whether it’s from an antique booth, estate sale, flea market, or a small local shop.
Over the years, those little finds begin to tell a story that’s uniquely yours.
The Things That Always Catch My Eye
People often ask if I collect vintage myself. The answer is absolutely!
Over the years I’ve discovered there are just certain things I can’t resist. Handmade pottery is always at the top of my list, along with vintage vases, cast iron pieces, old planters, and just about anything with a farmhouse feel. I also have a soft spot for donkey figurines and, if you’ve visited my home, you’ve probably noticed a few pug and Boston Terrier collectibles tucked here and there.
Most of the things I collect aren’t valuable antiques—they’re reminders of my childhood. They take me back to family gatherings, time spent outdoors, visits to my grandparents’ house, and the simple things that made growing up special. Every time I come across one of those pieces, it brings back a memory.
That’s one of the reasons I love vintage so much. It isn’t just abo
What I Have Learned
That’s what I enjoy most about vintage. Every piece is a little different, and every home tells a different story. I hope the next time you’re out antiquing or browsing a vintage booth, you’ll find something that makes you smile.
After all, those are usually the treasures that become your favorites.
